While I do agree that it is extremely unfortunate that Bernie is toeing the Party line on #RussiaGate, it should be noted that he did vote against sanctions, and was essentially crucified for that — even though he said it was not to do anything nice to Russia.
Bernie Sanders Is a Russian Agent, and Other Things I Learned This Week
Matt Murphy (@MattMurph24) June 15, 2017 I could go on, but you get the picture. I spend a lot of time online-too much…
In short, while I really regret what he is doing, and have to add one more thing to my list of things in which I disagree with Bernie, I can see why he thinks he needs to protect his flank.
The 2020 Primary is going to be a bruising battle, and he more than anyone knows how the DNC, the Dem Elites and their lickspittles in the MSM will attack him. I suppose what he is doing now is designed to give them less cannon fodder.
Also, if he is planning to run as a Democrat, he needs to be cognizant of where the Democratic base itself stands on the Russian issue — and folks, it is not a good place:
I suppose one can only swim upstream so much, and Bernie doesn’t want to make the Russia issue the hill he is ready to die on.
