Where have you found evidence of this, Bob? Because all polling, surveys, referenda show that not to be the case. The people in the Donbas wanted protection from the murderous UkroNazi scum who were killing, torturing and bombing them on a daily basis.
AND, contrary to many misbegotten opinions in the West, Putin was reluctant to do anything in Donbas. It was the Duma that forced his hand. Hell, even Fortune Magazine saw that.
