“we have had 10+ years of relative peace time.”
Now I know you really do live on a different planet. Look, I suggest you read some Stephanie Kelton on MMT. It is not necessary to have a balanced budget. The government’s deficit just reflects a surplus in the private sector. Cheney said that “Reagan proved that deficits don’t matter” and though I hate to say it, he was right. They don’t matter.
“It is kind of puzzling how you put faith in the government where you have no faith in private companies.”
Wrong. I have every faiuth in private companies to do exactly what they are supposed top do: turn a profit and return as much profit as possible to their shareholders. To expect private companies to act with any other imperitive or priority in mind is ludicrous. Any company that actually did put “people first” would soon go out of business. That is not what they are supposed to do. A corporation, BY LAW, is literally required to put “profits over people”. The only thing that hems them in are regulations and laws; but qwe have already seen over the past 30 years of Neoliberalism how Corporate America have bought politicians and had them remove those regulations and laws.
So yes, I trust privat companies to do what they are chartered to do, and whnat they are leaglly required to do. Namely, make the greatest profit by any and all legal means possible. I do not trust private insurance companies to do what is best for their customers/patients. I trust them to do what is best for the company.
