To be fair, I did not say that Russia has to WIN. I just said that they cannot afford to lose.

By contrast, the US can afford to lose. It always could. That is the whole reason for a "proxy" like Ukraine. The US can fight Russia to the last Ukrainian, and if Russia does win, then the US and NATO simply revert to the status quo ante (except that they will have no more ammunition or weapons stockpiles anymore).
