This is not a mystery — nor should it be a surprise.

Russia has been complaining since the grain "deal" was first launched. The reason is that the "deal" was supposed to be a quid pro quo, with something for everyone, but it never was.

Under the deal, Russia would allow Ukraine to sell and ship its grain, Russia would establish safe corridors/sea lanes through the Black Sea to allow ships to pass safely.

In return, the sanctions on Russian grain exports would be lifted, and Russian companies involved in grain export would be allowed back into the SWIFT system in order to sell their grain and fertiliser products.

Three things happened, however:

First, the purpose of the grain "deal" was never realised. Instead of helping the poorest, most needy countries, the Ukrainians sold their grain to the big multinationals, who shipped the grain to rich countries like Europe, so they could make a profit. 70% of the Ukrainian grain went to EUROPE - so much so that EU farmers in places like Poland have been in open revolt over the flooding of their market with cheap Ukrainian grain.

In fact, less than 3% of the grain shipped under the "deal" went to where it was supposed to go.

So you see, Nadin, your idea that this move will somehow make matters worse in terms of migration are UNFOUNDED.

Second, the Russian part of the deal was never implemented. The sanctions on Russian grain were NOT lifted, and Russian grain exporters were NOT let back into the SWIFT system.

Third, the Ukrainians took advantage of the safe shipping lanes to import western weapons and war supplies. In short, the ships that left loaded with grain had arrived loaded with arms.

The Ukrainians also were using the "safe" sea lanes to launch naval attacks on Russian forces and Russian infrastructure - the Kerch bridge explosion is the latest example of that.

If you want to know what Russia is doing and why, you simply have to listen to President Putin.
