The British do suffer from the most virulent strain of Russophobia. I think it goes back to the Crimean War. Certainly it was the British and the Americans who teamed up to support the White Russians in 1918 and try to kill Bolshevism in the crib. And with the brief exception of 1940-45 they have been trying to destroy Russia ever since.
Let' not forget Operation Unthinkable. That was Churchill's brainchild, a war plan designed "to impose upon Russia the will of the United States and the British Empire". It was never implemented, but I am sure the fact that it was developed and approved made the Russians feel uneasy.
