That was all spin. Hillary Clinton could not accept the idea of her losing to a person like Donald Trump, and so "Russiagate" was born.

In the US, many people go to prison for political reasons, especially whistleblowers and journalists. They are prosecuted under a 1917 law called the Espionage Act.

Obama used this to prosecute at least 9 journalists. People like Snowden and Assange are also prosecuted under this law, because they revealed crimes committed by the US government and military.

But the law does not allow the defendant to mount a defense, or to make the case that what they revealed was in the public interest, or exposed a crime.

Once you get charged under this law, you are either going to prison or you will be executed.

It is a way for the US government to silence dissenters and for the current regime to attack its political enemies.

For example, the Biden Administration is prosecuting Trump under the Espionage Act, which is so vague and broad that it almost guarantees that Trump will be convicted and sentenced to prison.
