You probably know Russia much better than I, but I do know the USA and Europe. And that is what Ukraine is all about.

We cannot discuss Ukraine without discussing NATO and the US pulling out of the INF treaty while stationing nuclear capable medium range Aegis Ashore systems in Poland and Romania.

We cannot discuss NATO without discussing the US's perception of EU as a threat and especially the "primordial fear" that the US has of an eventual friendly partnership between Russia and Germany. Remember, NATO was first conceived, as Lord Imsay said 60 years ago, to ‘Keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down."

NordStream was not something that the US could let stand. They had to keep the Russians out of Europe, and keep Germany from becoming too strong economically. And NATO was their way to stay "in" Europe.
