I get my data on Russian casualties from Mediazona. They are Russians, they are anti-Putin, they need to be accurate lest they face "consequences".

They currently estimate Russian losses at 44,654.

They base their numbers on public obituaries and social media, open sources that cannot be challenged. Obviously their mission is to provide actual information, as they believe that Putin's government would under-report casualties unless challenged.
