Many people think that calling WWII "The Great Patriotic War" and holding massive, 12-million strong military parades to celebrate VE Day that include civilians of all ages dressing up in WWII-era Russian uniforms and marching in the "Immortal Regiment" carrying photos of their fallen ancestors is absurd.
But again, it doesn't matter what you think. You are not Russian, and you are certainly not a strategic decision-maker in the Russian government.
The simple fact is that it is the sovereign right of any state to assess and determine what it considers to be an "existential threat" to its national security, and to exercise "pre-emptive self defense" when it deems that threat to warrant such action.
If I check your timeline, will I find anything saying that for the USA to consider a rag tag group of Cubans on the island of Grenada a threat to US national security? Or, for that matter, Iraq or Afghanistan? Or Vietnam? Or Korea? Or Somalia? Or Syria? Or Libya? Or Nicaragua? Or Cuba? Or Mali?
