If it "tells" you that I think Ukraine should never have become an independent nation state, then it has served its purpose.
The idea of Ukrainian "nationalism" is one that is deeply rooted in fascist/Nazi ideology concentrated in the area of Galicia and no further.
By allowing Ukraine to become independent, Russia and the world were INVITI(NG conflict, Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the history could have foretold the rise of the ultranationalists (Nazis). Certainly the CIA and the US State Department were aware of this, and that is why they cultivated and supported those extremist elements from Western Ukraine so they could be unleashed against the East.
