I believe that Romania, which became an Axis power in 1940 when it officially allied itself with Nazi Germany, Italy and Japan, was seen as a hostile nation by the USSR.
Like Ukraine and the Baltic States, Romania provided Waffen SS soldiers to Hitler's armies, and Romanians fought the Russians all along the Eastern Front - right up until the very bitter end in 1945.
These countries that allied with Nazi Germany were, I believe, treated harshly under the USSR - especially under Stalin, who had seen his armies suffer casualties to the SS Divisions from Romania, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Finland.
I also know that these facts are not well known, and few if any Nazis from those countries ever faced trial or punishment. Even Stepan Bandera himself was given safe haven by the USA in West Germany in return for his help in fighting the USSR during the Cold War.
But this also explains whey there was "no love lost" between the countries that fought with the Nazis and the USSR.
That said, I am not writing about Communists or Soviets or even Russians that much. I am writing about Banderites, who are NOT "Eastern European". They are NOT Slavs, they are Austrian Galicians. They are Catholic, like I am. They are part of Western European culture, like I am. Remember, when Bandera was born his home town of Lviv was actually called "Lemberg" and was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, as were my own forbears.
And I am writing about fascists. Western European fascists like the OUN-UPA, whose leaders were self-professed fans of Mussolini and who formerly allied themselves with Nazi Germany in 1941.
I hate fascists. They imprisoned part of my family at the concentration camp in Mauthausen (which is only a few hours' drive from where I am now).
So, "mate", I suggest you hold your own titties (whatever that means) and let me write about what I know.
