I agree that Trump is an outsider and he is seen as a very bad "front man" for the US empire. he does not know how to manage the empire in a face-saving way.

For example, he said he would not condemn Saudi Arabia over the Jamal Khashoggi killing, because "they buy a lot of weapons from us".

Likewise, he explained that the US was going to keep troops in Syria to "guard the oil".

He is not supposed to say truths like that - a President needs to frame every US action in terms of "defending democracy" or "promoting freedom" or "enforcing the rules-based order".

Trump refused to do that. He told the ugly truth. And that was why he had to be done away with.
