Crispin, please indulge me in a hypothetical. This is a serious question:

Do you believe that Mexico is 100% sovereign and independent? Do you believe that if Mexico wanted to enter a military alliance with China it could do so? Do you believe Mexico could host Chinese troops and bases and allow the Chinese to station their hypersonic missiles on its territory, and the US would do nothing?

Do you believe that Mexico can act however it wants, decide whatever it wants, do whatever it wants, without taking into account the interests of the United States?

Or do you believe that Mexico, like all countries in Central and South America, must at all times act with the understanding that they live in the “shadow” of a nuclear superpower, and act accordingly?
