Americans kept re-electing FDR until the man literally died in office. After that the GOP passed a law limiting Presidents to 2 terms. Russia doesn’t have such a law, and Putin is their FDR. He inherited a country with 3rd world poverty and life expectancy, which was becoming a vassal to the US with puppet governments (Yeltsin), and he transformed it into a modern powerhouse that the US seems scared shitless of.
It is no wonder he has an 80% approval rating.
Funny, Americans hear that and call bullshit — they ask, how can ANY leader have an 80% approval rating? THAT IS THE WRONG QUESTION. We should rather be asking why our system of government cannot give us a leader with an 80% approval rating. Why are 50% of voters refusing to vote? Why are so many of those who DO vote always “holding their nose” to vote for the “lesser evil”?
Imagine we had a system that allowed everyone to vote fore the person they actually WANTED. Imagine we had a real CHOICE. Maybe then it would be passible that we ended up with someone in the WH that 4 out of 5 of us thought was doing a good job. After all, if every candidate, regardless of party, had to answer to the people instead of the powerful, we might get there.
